
Michael Mefford, D.M.D
Background
Dr. Michael Mefford is a 2002 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where he graduated as President of his class. He graduated with honors from the American College of Dentists as well as being recognized as Outstanding Student Dentist in Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a 1997 graduate of Milligan College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky and lived there until he moved to Johnson City to attend Milligan College. It was while he attended Milligan College, that he met his wife, Jamie. They reside in Johnson City with their three children, Lily, Graham, and Maxwell (and their dog, Carson).
Dr. Mefford has a passion for delivering the best care possible and is committed to treating his patients with the utmost care and compassion. Dr. Mefford understands the benefits of being involved with organized dentistry. While maintaining a membership in the American Dental Association, he has served as the President of the First District Dental Society, as well as serving as Chairman of Membership for the Tennessee Dental Association’s First District. He was recently inducted into the International College of Dentists as a Fellow, a special distinction given as a recognition from his peers as a result of his professional and humanitarian dedication. Being interested in all facets of dentistry, he maintains a membership in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry so that he can stay abreast in the latest trends. Dr. Mefford has a passionate commitment to ongoing continuous education courses, in an effort to be able to provide the best care to his patients. He has advanced training in both dental implant placement and prosthetics, a field of dentistry that has experienced tremendous growth. He enjoys utilizing his certification to provide orthodontic care to his patients using the Invisalign system. Dr. Mefford has served on the Board of Directors of the Keystone Dental Clinic, a dental clinic for the underserved.
Outside of the Office
Dr. Mefford has a passion for being involved civically. He is a past-president of the Rotary Club of Johnson City where he has spearheaded the Rotary Park Boundless Playground project, a project that brought the first all-access playground and splash pad facility to Johnson City. With a passion for humanitarian service, he manages international projects for 85 clubs and 3500 Rotarians for his Rotary district. Because of his interest in humanitarian service, he was offered a position with The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisers to assist with the development of international humanitarian projects. He has been on numerous trips overseas for humanitarian work. Dr. Mefford has also been a member of the Tweetsie Trail Task Force; a city-formed committee that created the long-awaited, and heavily used, rail-trail from Johnson City to Elizabethton.
